Charleston Base Awards Admiral James B. Osborne Scholarships



During the regular June monthly meeting, Charleston Base SUBVETS presented the Admiral James B. Osborne Scholarship awards to four well deserving high school graduates. The scholarships totaled $3100 and scholarship committee chairman Julian Villegas presented the recipients with their checks. Shown in the photos above (each with Julian presenting) are (clockwise from top left):

Aaron Schmitt - a graduate of Ashley High School - Aaron will be attending Clemson University. He is the son of Charleston Base member Commander Mark Schmitt.

Chase McCloud Fowler - a graduate of Stratford High School. Richard has been accepted by The Citadel, Charleston Southern University and USC. He is the grandson of Charleston Base member Richard Alfano.

Haley Dawn Hinman - graduate of Cathedral Academy. Haley has been accepted by USC and Charleston Southern University. She is the daughter of Charleston Base member Jeff Hinman.

James Kenneth Kidd - a graduate of Seneca High School. James has and accepted by Clemson University and Wofford College. He is the grandson of Charleston Base member Ronald Snyder, who accepted the check (James attended by SKYPE (he's on the ipad)).

Swamp Fox World War II Submarine Veterans Hold Luncheon In Summerville



Four World War II Charleston Base SUBVETS members attended the bi-monthly luncheon at Ryan's in Summerville. Shown in the pictures above, clockwise from top left are: Lee Allison, Willie Jones, Stacy Power and Abel Jenkins. Also in attendance were 30 Charleston Base members and spouses.

Lee Allison made a passionate plea for the removal and restoration of the Amberjack Memorial that is at White Point Gardens at Charleston's Battery. Allison would like to see the memorial moved to the Cold War Memorial Park in Mount Pleasant, SC where it would be more visible and more likely to be properly maintained.
