FACE-TO-FACE WITH OLD MAN TROUBLE

I will be with your when you pass through the waters . . . when you walk through the fire . . . the flame will not burn you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, and your Savior. Isaiah 43:2-3

All of us encounter occasional setbacks—those inevitable visits from Old Man Trouble from which none of us are exempt. The fact that we encounter hard times is not nearly as important as the way we choose to deal with it.

When tough times arrive, we have to make a choice: we can choose to begin the tough work of tackling our troubles . . . or not. When we summon the courage to look Old Man Trouble squarely in the eye, he usually blinks . . . and then he usually wanders off. God, on the other hand, never leaves us, not even for a moment. God’s love never diminishes, and it never fails—and because God remains steadfast, we can live courageously.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, You are my safe harbor and my anchor. As I journey through this day, I know that I may encounter frustrations and losses. When I am anxious, let me turn to You. Keep me steady and on course, Lord, and renew a right spirit inside of me this day. Amen
