Charleston Base Submarine Veterans, Inc.
The Admiral James B. Osborn Memorial Scholarship is funded by the Charleston Base Submarine Veterans Incorporated. The scholarship will be awarded to a Tri-County high school senior and disbursed as a one-time $500 award payable to the recipient.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
· Applicants must be a high school senior accepted to a 2 year or 4 year post secondary institution.
· Applicants must demonstrate:
· Scholastic proficiency
· Participation in extra curricular activities that benefit their school and/or community
· Be able to demonstrate a familial relationship with a submarine qualified individual (letter from Commanding Officer on Ship’s Letterhead for active duty relation or copy of DD214 for retired relation).
· Must be a graduating senior from a Charleston, Berkeley, or Dorchester County high school. (County requirement need not be met if you have a relative who is a member of the Charleston Base United States Submarine Veterans’ Association.)
APPLICATION PROCESS
The Charleston Base United States Submarines Veterans’ Association has established a Scholarship Committee to review and approve applications. Students meeting the above criteria and wishing to apply for a scholarship must observe the following procedure:
· Complete the enclosed application.
· Enclose two (2) letters of reference/recommendation from someone other than a relative.
· Enclose or forward to the committee an official high school transcript including ACT/SAT (PLAN or PSAT) scores.
· Provide a copy of a letter of acceptance to an accredited college, university, or vocational school.
· Provide proof of submarine qualification of submarine qualified relation.

REVIEW PROCESS AND DETERMINATION
· The information submitted by the applicant will be maintained in strict confidence. It will be made available only to the Charleston Base United States Submarine Veterans’ Scholarship Committee.
· The application must be submitted to the Committee prior to the closing date of April 15th.
· Eligibility requirements as outlined above will be enforced.
· The entries on the application form must be COMPLETE, ACCURATE and LEGIBLE. NOTE: “SPONSOR”, as referenced in the application, refers to the Father, Step Father, Brother, Step Brother, Grandfather or Guardian through whose military Submarine Service the student’s eligibility is claimed.

The United States Submarine Veterans Association, Charleston Base is offering this scholarship to honor the memory of Admiral James B. Osborn. Admiral “Oz” served his country with bravery and honor and was an outstanding shipmate. He was a beloved leader whose men chose to honor him with this one time $500 scholarship.
